Description of event/hazard:

A strong westerly flow covers the country, with west to northwest gales affecting many places.
Severe gale west to northwest winds are expected in exposed parts of central and eastern North Island and also much of the South Island. Strong Wind Warnings and Watches are in force for these areas.
People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts in case any changes are made.
Area: Southern coast of Fiordland, Stewart Island, Southland and Otago
Valid: 9 hours from 6:00am to 3:00pm Wednesday
Forecast: West to northwesterly gales are forecast to become severe in exposed places at times, with gusts reaching 120 km/h.
Changes: Winds have eased and the Watch is lifted, but a new Warning is now in force for Wednesday.
